Mother’s Day this year was my first without a mother. She died peacefully in her sleep last May, just four weeks short of her 99th birthday. ElderSparks grew out of my response to her dementia and is unquestionably part of her legacy: without her trusting and enthusiastic participation, I never would have sought a wider audience for it.

Unfortunately, she did not live to see what’s become of our early mask making. I know it would have made her very happy.
